Most painful and emotional conditions respond well to my style of acupuncture. The most common conditions I see in my Solihull Birmingham clinic are usually Arthritis, Rheumatoid and Osteo-arthritis, Gout , upper & Lower Back pain, Frozen Shoulder Pain, Hip Pain both pre and post operative also Ankle and Foot pain. Many of my patients have been able to come off stong medication such as Methotraxate and strong pain killers after having acupuncture pain relief treatment. Frozen shoulder also seems quite common with hip and knee problems usually presenting with elderley patients. All these painful conditions can be improved with acupuncture or electro- acupuncture treatment.
Other conditions that have become more common recently are PMS, PMT, Menstrual pain,Endometriosis and Menopausal symptoms (hot flushes etc) all of which respond very quickly to treatment.
Gastric problems including IBS, Crohns disease, Colitis and diverticular disease have been treated sucessfully in my clinics with results being so rapid they have amazed me, of course the patients were very pleased as well!
My treatments are very thorough with an emphasis on the well being of my patient. On the initial treatment a full medical history is taken with details of any prescribed medication, also I will take an accurate reading of the patient's blood pressure.

Acupuncture in Solihull
Maximizing health, relieving pain. Your body is a dynamic environment of interrelating and interconnecting networks. Some of these networks are obvious and others are more subtle. Western science has focused it’s attention on the obvious networks such as the nervous, circulatory, endocrine, and lymphatic systems.
In contrast, Traditional Chinese Medicine has, over the centuries, mapped out the subtle networks and interrelationships that reveal our bodies to be dynamic cellular ecosystems.
By using a systems approach to health care, early Oriental practitioners discovered Acupuncture point. They found that upon stimulating these points a cascade of positive changes occur in the body.
Computer imaging of the brain during an acupuncture treatment shows dynamic activity occuring in many regions and structures within the brain. This modern research has shown that stimulating an Acupuncture point causes an increase in the production of endorphins and simultaneously activates the immune and endocrine systems.
Your acupuncturist can choose the most effective treatment plan to help you obtain your desired health outcome. Acupuncture point will be chosen to relieve pain and stress, and to increase vitality.
Each acupuncturist uses fine high grade surgical steel needles to stimulate the Acupuncture point on your body. These pre-sterilized and disposable needles are used ‘only once’.
Millions of patients have enjoyed the benefits of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. They report the elimination or reduction of pain, and increase in function, and a greater sense of vitality and well-being.
Acupuncture point treatment has evolved over thousands of years. It is called empirical science when Acupuncture point have been systematically tried and observed for functions and treatment efficacy. This art was started by the use of what the Chinese call ‘ashi’ points, or points where there is pain. Bones, sharpened stones, or bamboo were inserted into these ‘ashi Acupuncture point’ and it was found to give relief. Over the next few centuries, Qigong practitioners, doctors, and shamans began to see and map out the system of energetic meridians that course throughout our body. To date this is still being refined. Acupuncture point are specific points on the body which give particular access to this energetic system, performing different functions depending on their locations and the patterns of disease disharmony involved.
The needles are usually retained in the body for 10 minutes to one hour. While the patient is relaxed, the Acupuncture practitioner may choose to manipulate particular needles at particular Acupuncture point to give desired effects. This action is to either tonify, nourish, or strengthen, or conversely, to drain or subdue.
Electrical stimulation is also sometimes indicated. This is performed by placing small alligator clips onto the needles and passing a very mild battery generated electrical current through the it.
It should be known that many conditions can take many months of treatments to obtain desired results. For instance, Chronic low back pain that has been nagging someone for 10 years may see some very quick results, although, any substantial lasting effects would actually take months or even years of regular treatments. The acupuncture practitioner will find out all they can about the particular condition and judge how frequent and how long treatment is indicated according to the severity and duration.
A World Health Organization interregional seminar on acupuncture, moxabustion and acupuncture anesthesia was held in Beijing (Peking) in June 1979, attended by participants from twelve countries. Its purpose was to discuss ways in which priorities and standards could be determined in the acupuncture areas of clinical work, research, training, and technology transfer. Scientific investigation must be closely correlated with demonstrations of acupuncture's clinical efficacy. Apart from acupuncture analgesia used in major surgical procedures, acupuncture also has been applied as a diagnostic aid and in conjunction with fluoroscopy in gastrointestinal diseases. Acupuncture is clearly not a panacea for all ills but the sheer weight of evidence demands that acupuncture must be taken seriously as a clinical procedure of considerable value.
During the past decade, there has been a growing convergence between the most advanced research knowledge from physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology, and knowledge obtained by research in the field of acupuncture; that is to say, a convergence of modern international science with traditional Chinese medicine. For example, in more than 600 cases of coronary heart disease, the effectiveness of acupuncture in relieving the symptoms was over 80 percent. In 645 cases of acute bacillary dysentery, 90 percent of the patients were cured within ten days as judged by clinical symptoms and signs and the results of stool culture. The technique is also comparatively effective in controlling fever, inflammation and pain.
From the viewpoint of modern medicine, the principle action of acupuncture (and of moxibustion) is to regulate the function of the human body and to increase its resistance by enhancing the immune system and the antiphlogistic, analgesic, antispastic, antishock and antiparalytic abilities of the body.
The World Health Organization Interregional Seminar drew up the following provisional list of diseases that lend themselves to acupuncture treatment. The list is based on clinical experience, and not necessarily on controlled clinical research: furthermore, the inclusion of specific diseases are not meant to indicate the extent of acupuncture's efficacy in treating them.

In some instances it is not unusual for the patient to notice an improvement in their condition after the first treatment. Subsequent treatments help to bolster this and improve the patients general energy and mood. Coupled with greater flexibility this can further enhance how the patient feels leading to a better lifestyle.

Acupuncture has been proven to work even under the watchful eyes of medical scientists, below are just a few of the studies carried out to test if acupuncture works using western medical conditions:
• In 1999, doctors at the University of Heidelberg concluded that acupuncture had true health benefits, after patients who underwent the therapy found it greatly benefited their rotator cuff tendinitis, a painful shoulder problem. A control group who underwent placebo therapy using a needle which retracted into the handle when pressed on to the skin did not report such great benefits.
• In 2000 a study at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland, US, found that electro-acupuncture - which involves passing different strengths of electrical current through needles inserted in the body - could ease symptoms of sickness in cancer patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy.
• In 2001 medical researchers at the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine found that acupuncture can improve the prospects of people with severe heart failure by reducing activity in the sympathetic nervous system, so relieving pressure on the heart.
• In 2004 a study of 401 people in the UK who suffered frequent headaches found that those who underwent acupuncture experienced 22 fewer days of headache per year, used 15 per cent less medication, made 25 per cent fewer visits to their GP and were absent from work through sickness 15 per cent less than a control group who did not have acupuncture.
